The first step is to remove any larger dust or dirt particles by using a
very soft brush like the Ultra Brush. Starting in the middle,
brush towards the outside edges of the lens or filter. Sometimes this is
all that is needed to clean your lens. Canned air like Dust Pro
or Vari-Air may also be used to remove larger dust or dirt
particles.
To remove minor smudges or fingerprints, the Soft-Tek split
microfiber cloth is ideal. Be sure all larger dust and dirt particles
have been removed with the Ultra Brush before proceeding. Start
in the middle of the lens or filter and using a circular motion clean
towards the outside of the lens.
Not all cloth material will remove smudges or fingerprints. Round fibers
found in many cloth materials will tend to spread smudges and
fingerprints. By contrast the triangular shapes of the fibers found in
the Soft-Tek split microfiber cloth act much like a squeegee
wiping away smudges and fingerprints from the lens surface.
The extra thickness of the Soft-Tek cloth allows smaller dust and
dirt particles to be swept up into the cloth away from the lens surface
instead of being dragged across the lens or filter surface which might
possibly cause a minor scratch.
If more aggressive cleaning is needed the combination of Premium
Grade Lens Cleaning Tissue and Formula MC or LensBrite
liquid lens cleaner is recommended.
Premium Grade Lens Cleaning Tissue manufactured by Peca
Products Inc. is the world’s finest optical tissue. It is extremely
soft and virtually lint-free. It is safe for any optical lens or filter
and meets Federal Specification NNN-P-40B.
Put a few drops of liquid lens cleaner on a wad (several sheets wadded
up) of Premium Grade Lens Cleaning Tissue and clean in a circular
motion from the center to the outside of the lens or filter.
Before the liquid dries completely from the lens or filter surface, use
a new dry wad of Premium Grade Lens Cleaning Tissue and continue
cleaning in a circular motion until all signs of the fluid are gone the
lens or filter looks clean and polished.
LIQUID LENS CLEANERS
LensBrite - LensBrite is an anti-fog lens cleaner that is
very popular with customers who prefer to have anti-fog action on their
lenses an filters. Anti-fog lens cleaners work by leaving an invisible
coating behind on the lens or filter surface after cleaning. It’s this
invisible coating that helps stop fog from forming on the lens or
filter.
Formula MC - Formula MC was developed by Peca Products
Inc. when camera and filter manufacturers first introduced
multi-coated lenses and filters. It was discovered that Anti-Fog lens
cleaners occasionally have a minor reaction with some of the different
multi-coatings found on multi-coated the lenses or filters. This
reaction tends to leave a smudge or residue behind after cleaning that
may be difficult to remove.
Formula MC is specifically formulated to clean without leaving
any invisible film or residue behind on the lens or filter surface after
cleaning. It’s safe for all lenses and filters. Formula MC has
become the liquid lens cleaner by which all others are measured. It has
been tested, approved and purchased by NASA for use on the
Space Shuttle program.
Premium Grade Lens Cleaning Tissue, LensBrite and
Formula MC are manufactured by Peca Products Inc. in Beloit,
WI.
